The 24-year-old medical doctor bested 11 other finalists to win the national title. She is now expected to represent South Africa at the 71st Miss World competition.

Alyssa Joan Smith and Zoalize Jansen Van Rensburg were named the first and second runners-up, respectively, while Motheo Mokoto and Asande Mchunu rounded out the Top 5 finalists.

Reigning Miss World Karolina Bielawska from Poland graced the event with the chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization Julia Morley.

Former South African Miss World Rolene Strauss was also present as one of the distinguished judges.

The new Miss World South Africa hails from Acornhoek, Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga. She holds a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Pretoria.

Claude founded her nonprofit Young Leaders Network to advocate for youth development, leadership, and entrepreneurship by bringing together young people from different fields of expertise.

71st Miss World 2023 promises to be an extraordinary platform that celebrates the essence of beauty, diversity, and empowerment. Contestants from over 130 countries will gather in India to showcase their unique talents, intelligence, and compassion. They will participate in a series of rigorous competitions, including talent showcases, sports challenges, and charitable initiatives, all aimed at highlighting the qualities that make them exceptional ambassadors of change. There will be several rounds to shortlist participants taking over a period of one month before the grand finale scheduled in November/ December 2023.

24 contestants competed for the title at the finale, during which they modelled national costumes and sportswear.

First runner up was Djulieta Calalb and second runner up was Dana Kovall respectively.

On her crowning, Diana said: “I still can’t believe that a girl from a modest family became the holder of this honorary title and has the possibility and responsibility to represent our country – the Republic of Moldova in the next “MISS WORLD”.

Diana will represent Moldova at the 71^st Miss World Final, where reigning Miss World, Karolina Bielawska will crown her successor. 

Miss World today visited the Polish White Eagle Club in London to support their ‘Help for Ukraine Appeal’

Newly crowned Miss World Karolina Bielawska has visited the Polish White Eagle Club in London to support their appeal to help the people of Ukraine.

Karolina visited the club to see the wonderful work being completed by the Polish Community. She also helped pack boxes, thanked those who have given their time, and pledged to come back soon to help more.

“We visited White Eagle Club. Their mission is to serve those on the ground who are affected by the conflict in Ukraine through the provision of much needed supplies,” she wrote on her social media account.

“During this difficult time this unique place became a symbol of solidarity, service and support,” she added.

After arriving in London since winning the second Miss World title for Poland last week in Puerto Rico, the 23-year-old kicked off her reign by attending a charity event at the Polish club “Ognisko” in South Kensington whose aim was “to raise funds for the Ukrainian people suffering from the current crisis.”

“I am grateful that together with the Miss World organization we could help with the charity auction and donate $20 000 to support this important cause,” she said.

Miss World CEO and Miss World to embark on a 4-day itinerary

Miss World CEO, Julia Morley and Miss World, Karolina Bielawska have arrived in Mumbai to embark on a 4-day programme.

This is Karolina’s first visit to India. She said, “I am so excited to come to India! previous winners have told me that their visit to India was one of the highlights of their Miss World reign.”

Miss World India 2022 – Sini Shetty and Mr World 2016 – Rohit Khandelwal, greeted the Miss World team.

Julia and Karolina are special guests at the Miss India Awards Gala tonight. Karolina describes her outfit for the occasion, “I will be wearing a spectacular Falguni Shane Peacock creation. I love Indian designers and this gown is breath taking!”

Michelle Yeoh makes history

Miss World Malaysia 1983, Michelle Yeoh has made history as the first woman of Asian descent to win the Best Actress award, at the 95^th Oscar Academy Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) held the prestigious award ceremony on March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Michelle is the first Malaysian performer honoured with the Best Actress Oscar, for her commended performance in sci-fi comedy film, Everything Everywhere All At Once. She portrayed Evelyn Wang, an Asian American immigrant, laundromat owner and busy mother who is thrown into an adventure, through multiple universes, in order to save the world from devastation. Michelle had to play, not only real-world Evelyn but many different versions of her character. The action scenes allow Michelle to display her incredible abilities as a martial artist but it’s her grounding through the crazy situations that won her the best actress award.

Michelle gave an inspiring acceptance speech,

“For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof to dream big and dreams do come true.”

She dedicated her Oscar to her mother and “all the moms in the world, because they really are the superheroes and without them none of us would be here tonight.”

“I’m bringing this home!” she continued. “Thank you to the Academy, this is history in the making!”

Michelle has been admired, throughout the awards season, for her impressive performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. In addition to her Oscar, she won a Golden Globe Award For Best Actress, a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress and received a Bafta nomination for Best Actress.

On being informed of her history-making nomination in January, Michelle said, “I think this is more than me. Asians are walking up to me saying, ‘You can do it, you’re doing it for us.’ I totally understand them.”

Michelle’s acting career began in Hong Kong in the 1980s. She became renowned for roles in action films, starring alongside Jackie Chan and did many of her own stunts. Later she became better known, among Western audiences, for roles in the James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies. Furthermore, her Hollywood debut and Oscar-winning drama, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She has recently appeared in the blockbusters Crazy Rich Asians and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Everything Everywhere All at Once won seven Academy Awards out of 11 nominations, including best picture. Among its other wins, it received best original screenplay and best director for duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Congratulations to Michelle on her Best Actress Oscar! This demonstrates the platform into future success that the Miss World contest can provide.

Karolina Bielawska tours Monterrey with Miss Mexico

Reigning Miss World, Karolina Bielawska is currently visiting Monterrey, Mexico, where she has reunited with her friend, Miss Mexico, Karolina Vidales, “It’s great to see Karolina again! Not only do we share the same name but we are both Business students!” exclaimed Karolina.

They took the opportunity to catch up, while enjoying the afternoon sunshine, in beautiful Santa Lucia Park. The park hosts the famous Santa Lucia International Festival every November and celebrates young performers, artists and international cultural activities. As well as the park, exhibits and performances also take place in the surrounding streets.

Karolina Bielawska expressed her excitement, “Mexico is famous for the warmth and hospitality of its people and I can’t wait to get started! Ola Mexico!”

Their next stop was to a Monterrey primary school. Both Miss World, Miss Mexico and the children had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The titleholders received the warmest of welcomes from the children, with big hugs and smiles. Karolina Bielawska said, “Monterrey children all wear colourful hats to school. I am not sure why this is but it certainly brightened up my day!

Miss World finished the tour with a visit to the spectacular Cascada Cola de Caballo waterfalls. Karolina will treasure the memories of this stunning view and her Mexico experience. She said, “I love nature and discovering its beauty in Mexico was a lot of fun! Thank you @karolinavidales for showing me around and sharing this experience with me!

The special event was organized by Miss World Vietnam on Friday, September 16 at the La Vela Saigon Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.

Memorabilia from the national pageant were auctioned including the crown of the reigning Miss World Vietnam Huynh Nguyen Mai Phuong.

According to Miss World, the event was a huge success with over 7 billion VND collected from donors and benefactors. The total amount raised will benefit the Miss World projects in Vietnam and overseas.

“Once again Sen Vang Entertainment team have pulled off a remarkable event production that will surely after this success be repeated for many future years,” Miss World Organization shared on social media.

Karolina was also overwhelmed by the generosity of the Vietnamese people. “Vietnamese people have beautiful hearts. I am so proud to be here,” she said.

Karolina Bielawska, a 23-year-old business student, received the crown from the previous Miss World, Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh.

The new Miss World said she would remember the “amazing” pageant “for the rest of my life.”

It is the second Miss World title for Poland, after Aneta Kręglicka was named the most beautiful woman on the planet in 1989.

The 70th global beauty event had been due to take place in December 2021, but was postponed at the last minute after several contestants tested positive for Covid-19.

In solidarity with Ukraine, which is fighting off a Russian invasion, the 40 finalists in Puerto Rico walked across the stage holding candles.

Reportedly, 17 people, including the contestants and crew of the organization contracted the coronavirus. These contestants also include India’s Manasa Varanasi, Indonesia’s Carla Yules and Malaysia’s Lavanya SIvaji among others. The Miss World Organisation announced the news of the COVID-19 outbreak which led to the postponement of the show. The organisation released an official statement via their social media.

The official statement read, “Miss World 2021 temporarily postpones global broadcast finale in Puerto Rico due to health and safety interest of contestants, staff, crew and general public. The finale will be rescheduled at Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot within the next 90 days.”

 “As of yesterday, additional safety measures were implemented in the best interest of the contestants, production team and spectators, understanding the event increased risks on the stage and in the dressing room. However, after additional positive cases were confirmed this morning after consulting with health officials and experts, the postponement decision was made. The next step according to the medical experts is immediate quarantine, pending observation and further testing according to best practices in situations like this. Once and only when contestants and staff are cleared by health officials and advisors, will contestants and related staff return to their home countries.” they added.

Julia Morley, Miss World chairman, also addressed the situation to share, “We are very much looking forward to the return of our contestants, (who we have grown to know and love), to compete for the Miss World crown.” After meeting with the virologists and medical experts hired to oversee the Miss World 2021 event and discussing with the Puerto Rico Health Department, the decision was made by the organizers of the event to postpone the globally broadcast finale at the Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot to be held within the next 90 days.
